2007-2008 IIDA Southern California Student Scholarship Event Summary

On Saturday, February 2, 2008 the Southern California chapter of IIDA held their annual student scholarship competition. Hosted by Haworth dealer IOS in Irvine (www.iosinc.net), this event brought together 22 students from design schools as far away as Northridge, Azusa and San Diego. Students presented their school projects in an interview format to 3 teams of 5 judges comprised of senior designers and other industry leaders.

The five scholarship categories were:

• Stephanie Tarr Scholarship, a memorial endowment, $5,000.

• Junior Student Scholarship, for lower-division students, $4,000.

• Innovation in Interior Design, $4,000.

• Technology in Interior Design, $5,000.

• Social Relevance in Interior Design, $4,000.

The judges selected one winner per category and were given discretion to award additional students for honorable mention.  This year, a total of $27,000. was awarded to six winning students, who received their awards at the prestigious Calibre event on April 4, 2008.
