History and Mission

History

IIDA was founded in 1994 as the result of a merger of the Institute of Business Designers (IBD); the International Society of Interior Designers (ISID); and the Council of Federal Interior Designers (CFID). The goal of the merger was to create an international association with a united mission that would represent interior designers worldwide. Since that date, IIDA has worked to convene communities of interior designers across regions and specialties representingthe interests for the entire community.

Mission

International Interior Design Association (IIDA) works to enhance quality of life through excellence in interior design and to advance interior design through knowledge, value and community. IIDA is a professional networking and educational association of 12,000 Members in nine specialty Forums in 30 Chapters around the world.

The Goals and Objectives of IIDA are:

  • To Unify the profession of interior design.
  • To be Responsive to the needs of members.
  • To Encourage excellence and innovation in interior design practice and education.
  • To Protect the health, safety and welfare of the public through interior design.
  • To Nurture development of the body of knowledge in interior design.
  • To Provide leadership, advocacy and public relations.
