Fears and Phobias Have Been Conquered at Haunt Couture

The much anticipated annual IIDA SoCal Haunt Couture fashion extravaganza took place on October 24th, 2019 before an excited audience at the Avalon Hollywood nightclub.

Using this year’s theme as their inspiration, twelve teams conquered their Fears and Phobias.  Paired with manufacturing industry partners, the design teams created stunning couture attire from unconventional materials.

We welcomed four very special celebrity guest judges–Project Runway All-Stars Samantha Black, Sonjia Williams, Gunnar Deatherage and Melissa Fleis, who judged the teams on their creativity, interpretation of the theme and runway presentation.  The themes were divided into three categories for the judges consideration:

Biological
Environmental
Psychological

The audience also participated in live voting, choosing their favorite team for the People’s Choice award.

The thrilling runway show did not disappoint!

As winners of the Biological Award, Gensler faced their fear of Botanophobia, or the fear of plants, with a haunting display of flora.

Winners of the Environmental Award, HKS, presented an electrical performance of Astrapophobia, the fear of thunder and lightning.

The Psychological Award went to HLW for their whimsical interpretation of Technophobia, also known as the fear of technology.

People’s Choice was awarded to College of the Canyons for their confining approach to Claustrophobia, the fear of small spaces.
