10 Questions with Dave Fridlund

David Fridlund, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, President Elect - IIDA Southern California

What is your favorite iconic chair:
I’m somewhat of a traditionalist – the Eames Lounge Chair. Every professor I had in college had one – I’ve been hooked ever since.
What is your favorite California destination:
Wow – that’s tough. There are reasons we are in California – the weather and the variety of wonderful places to go. Depending on my mood, the Idyllwild Jazz Festival, or Point Lobos in Carmel, or King’s Canyon NP, or the Hollywood Bowl, or the Antelope Valley when the poppies bloom, or……
What is your favorite color:
I like intense colors – no pastels. The green hills of California in the spring……ahhhhhh…..
What is your go-to outfit:
Jeans, polo shirt and tennis shoes. Although I think I look pretty good in a tux too.
Where would we find you on the weekend:
Dim Sum in the San Gabriel Valley, followed by a few hours in the yard or working on (I mean playing with) my model railroad, followed by a glass of wine at sunset.
Gold or Silver:
Silver. It’s starting to match my hair.
Beer or Wine:
Wine! Red wine!! I grew up in Wisconsin and never developed a taste for beer – they won’t let me visit Milwaukee any more.
Beach or Mountains:
When I was younger I spent my summers climbing mountains and my winters downhill skiing. Now a nice walk on the beach is just fine.
Online or Print Magazines:
Print. I spend enough time staring at that little computer screen – I’m not about to look at it any longer than absolutely necessary.
Open or Private Offices:
Open. No secrets here!
