2023 IIDA Leaders Breakfast: Celebrating Aspiration and Leadership

The 2023 IIDA Leaders Breakfast was held on November 10th at the Sheraton at the Bloc in DTLA and brought together our dynamic design community for a morning of inspiration, networking, and celebration. In it’s 17th year, the IIDA Leaders Breakfast has been supported through the generosity of International Benefactor sponsor MillerKnoll, and International Media partner, Interior Design Magazine.

This year’s Honoree, Rose Tourje, Founder and President of the non-profit organization ANEW, took the stage to share her story and to accept the Leadership award which included an iconic and custom red Eames stool provided by MillerKnoll. Following their trademark ‘doing what’s right with what’s left,’ ANEW diverts furniture surplus destined for landfill by stewarding and donating the furniture to other non-profits in underserved communities. Ms. Tourje’s dedication to sustainability and community engagement inspired attendees to think beyond the conventional boundaries of design.

The remarkable keynote address was delivered by LaToya Ruby Frazier, an award-winning photographer known for her powerful work in documenting social issues. Ms. Frazier shared insights into her project, “Flint is Family,” a poignant photo essay chronicling the challenges faced by the community in Flint, Michigan, during the water crisis.

As we reflect on this year’s Leaders Breakfast, we look forward to building on the connections made, insights gained, and inspiration shared.
