8th Annual LA Student Sample Swap and Tour

IIDA Los Angeles City Center hosted their 8th Annual Student Sample Swap and Tour on Saturday, March 29th at DLR Group in Santa Monica. Abundant donations from all over LA County provided a wealth of sample choices including fabric, glass, flooring, wall coverings and much more. Materials were sorted, categorized and displayed alongside corridors, conference rooms and offices areas. Architects, Interior Designers and ‘material experts’ were on hand to assist students with sample questions while they selected amongst the extensive collections.

Students were able to participate in two 30-minute presentations. Steve Sudeth, from Glas-Pro, spoke about ‘Crafting Architecture with Glass’ with much acclaim. There was also a career panel discussion with industry leaders to help students navigate career paths, decipher and benefit from experiences outside of school and opportunities within their field of study.

The student swap received numbers support and was hosted by DLR Group, sponsored by Systems Source, Knoll, Gunlocke and OFS Brands. Committee chairs for this event were Alexa Rajec of Gunlocke, Allyson Welch of Systems Source and Niki Valdes of Knoll. This event was incredible and students left smiling with bags, boxes and carts of samples as well as new ideas to jumpstart their next project! All of this was made possible through the combined effort of our volunteers, vendors, students, faculty and inspirational speakers. I’m ready to volunteer again next year!
