A Change of Scene for the Member Mixer
On August 22nd the IIDA Southern California Chapter will be holding a Member Mixer to celebrate the design industry while letting members and future members mingle and network. This year the event is switching up its scenery and holding the party in LA’s growing downtown arts district. Tucked among the lofts and warehouses on Mateo St. between 4th and 6th is the popular local stop Handsome Coffee Roasters. Handsome is gaining a quickly growing cult following of coffee connoisseurs and creative minded individuals with their simple menu of coffee, espresso, or espresso with milk…no skim, sugar, or froth present. The interior design experienced the same attention to detail as the beans experience during the roasting process which can be viewed behind large glass windows. The 3500 sq/ft bow truss building sits on the corner of an industrial street while the interior reflects a minimal design with its laser etched maple subway tiles and copper piping envisioned by the designers of WoodSmithe. Enjoy the interiors at the mixer while sipping on cups of Handsom’s famous roasts.
The setting is one new aspect of the Member Mixer, but the caterer fits into the similar art scene family. Heirloom LA is an Eagle Rock, CA based catering company that has won over food truck followers with their trademarked lasagna cupcakes and farm-to-plate way of cooking. Today Heirloom LA can be found at many local events, such as Silverlake Wine’s Sunday tastings, while sharing their unique tray passed appetizers and family style spreads crafted by classically trained Matt Poley and Tara Maxey.
The Member Mixer is set to be a unique night for the design industry, hosted and catered by companies that have built their businesses with the same creativity and admiration of design.
