A New Venue for the 2025 Calibre Design Awards

The centerpiece of the Pasadena Convention Center complex, the Pasadena Civic Auditorium was built in 1931. Designed by architects George Edwin Bergstrom, Cyril Bennett, and Fitch Haskell, it is one of the major structures in the historic Pasadena Civic Center District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Convention Center was built around the auditorium in the 1970s and underwent a major renovation by Fentress Architects in 2009, making it one of the greenest convention centers in North America. It is best known for being the home for the Emmy Awards from 1977 until 1997, is the former home of the Pasadena Symphony Orchestra, has been used for some episodes of American Idol, and was famously the site of the Motown 25 special which is best remembered for Michael Jackson’s performance of “Billie Jean” in which he debuted his signature dance move the “Moonwalk”.

And we’re excited to announce that this year the Pasadena Convention Center will hold the 37th IIDA Southern California Calibre Design Awards!! ✨
