Celebrating Women in Construction Week in CA

In 1987 Congress declared March as national Women’s History Month, since then the first week of March has been dedicated to celebrating Women in Construction. In California, Senator Ashby is keeping this tradition alive by carrying this year’s resolution for Women in Construction Week, held March 5 – March 11, to promote diversity and inclusion in the industry.

Senator Ashby is encouraging the legislature to focus on making construction sites safer and more welcoming to women in hopes of increasing the number of female apprenticeships from 10% to 20% within the next year. Through education and public awareness campaigns such as this, Ashby and the State of California aspire to encourage and inspire young women to pursue careers in the construction industry. As IIDA represents many women, a number of whom currently work in construction, we offer our support and congratulate Senator Ashby on the resolution. As advocates in our industry, we want to take a moment to recognize those women, and all who are working to make the construction industry more diverse, as our champions of the week!
