Design Tour – Schindler House

Join your IIDA friends for a tour of this LA architecture classic.

Private Tour begins at 11am. Networking to follow.

The Schindler House stands as an architectural masterpiece, blending groundbreaking design with social theory to redefine modern living. Conceived in 1921 by Rudolph Schindler and his wife Pauline, the house was an experimental vision for communal living, shared with another couple. Each person had a private space to express individuality, while communal areas fostered connection, including shared patios and a rooftop for outdoor sleeping. Schindler’s innovative “Slab-Tilt” construction and seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces resulted in a unique California design. Eventually the house would become a cornerstone of Southern California modernism, influencing notable works, and shaping the future of architecture around the world.
