IIDA’s EDI K-12 Initiative Kicks Off at Orange Coast College

We are excited to share our experience from the very first IIDA EDI K-12 initiative:

We had the opportunity to support Orange Coast College’s Science Night, an annual event that brings children from communities that may not have the opportunity to learn about potential careers in the Arts and Sciences. The Design Director at Orange Coast (Leaders Breakfast past honoree Charlene Reed) lead the charge with our VP’s of EDI to make the joint collaboration happen.

We are thankful to OFS for their generous sponsorship and for helping make the event a reality. We were able to utilize the new book by OFS called “Design Your World,” which aims to educate children about the field of Interior Design.

OFS provided take-away pencil sets for the kids and we were able to raffle off twenty copies of “Design Your World.” It was a truly rewarding night for everyone involved and left us inspired by the potential future designers in our group.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with OFS and expanding our reach to even more K-12 initiatives in the future. Our EDI committee is dedicated to promoting diversity and equity in the design industry, and this event was just the beginning of our efforts to make a positive impact on young minds.
