AECOM is seeking an Interiors Practice Leader to lead, inspire, and build the Interiors practice in the Southern California market. This position is based in Los Angeles or Orange, California.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide strategic vision and day-to-day administration of the Interiors group
  • Responsible for development and execution of goals, business plan and profitability, aligning efforts with regional and national business unit plans and goals
  • Work in partnership with Interiors Leadership (Design Director, Operations, Technical) to achieve business and practice goals
  • Work with upper management to support brand messaging which is consistent and present with the client, the internal design studio, and the design community
  • Maintain action plan for all Interiors projects and conduct regular review sessions with appropriate personnel
  • Work closely with project managers to identify budget and schedule constraints, support project profitability
  • Manage fee proposals and workload projection for projects
  • Understand and enforce conditions of client contracts, and understand scope of work and where appropriate seek additional services
  • Ability to think strategically, implement change, enforce policy and resolve conflict
  • Serve as Project Principal when/if needed

Business Development:

  • Lead the development and execution of the Interior’s marketing strategy at the local and regional business unit level collaborating with regional leadership and other market sectors leaders to meet financial targets
  • Conduct market research to identify, evaluate, and pursue new business opportunities and grow current client relationships including early client positioning/intersection
  • Leverage network of professional business contacts and build external and internal cross market/discipline network
  • Lead pursuit strategy for RFQ/RFP responses including, project approach, scope of work development, fee preparation, and interview preparation and interview. 
  • Ensure positive client, consultant, contractor, and jurisdictional satisfaction, grow our presence in the market
  • Work with marketing team in development of marketing material (both market sector and industry specific) and proposal preparation
  • Membership and participation/engagement in business industry organizations to increase/expand network (i.e. CoreNet, City Chamber of Commerce, etc.)

Practice Leadership/Staff Development:

  • Serve as a mentor by coaching teams and individuals; grows and develops the group and individual members
  • Responsible for performance development, prepare and deliver staff evaluations, and determine workload allocation
  • Participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff and build appropriate staff levels
  • Encourage staff exploration, innovation, and design excellence
  • Keep abreast of new technology, materials, methods, and developments in his/her specific field
  • Maintain membership and activity in appropriate industry organizations and be an active member of the design community
  • Office Interiors representative (practice) for national and regional Interiors practice leadership groups

Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture and eight (8) years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education
  • Design and/or project management experience for Commercial Interiors
  • Registered Interior Designer or Architect with current license
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications :

  • 15+ years of experience with a large Interiors or Architectural firm
  • Experience acting in a leadership or management capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to grow a practice and meet planned revenue targets
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills including both verbal/presentation and written
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Be able to respond to changing demands
  • Strong leadership and team building skills with strong initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Experience in design and project leadership for all sizes of interior design projects
  • Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets, resulting in project profitably
  • Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with external clients
  • Thorough knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Knowledge of Revit
  • NCIDQ certification
  • For Registered Architects, NCARB registration preferred
  • LEED accredited Professional with Sustainability and/or Wellness experience
  • Preferred proficiency in the following computer skills: PowerPoint, Photoshop, and InDesign graphic software
