Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree Industrial Design, Interior Design, General Design, Human Experience Design, Design History or closely related design discipline
  • Credentials commensurate as tenured associate professor
  • Demonstrated experience in administration and leadership in the profession
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching design at professional or college level
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Credentials commensurate as tenured full professor
  • Previous experience as a department chair
  • Demonstrated professional accomplishment at a national and/or international level commensurate with the rank of full professor
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching a variety of courses in Industrial Design, Interior Design, General Design, Human Experience Design, Design History, or closely related design discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in grant-writing and budget management
  • Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body

Duties:                                               

  • Provide leadership in all departmental matters, including faculty and staff recruitment, mentoring, and supervision, retention, and evaluation
  • Curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Coordination of external and internal reviews
  • Effectively manage resource including budget
  • Student advising and mentoring
  • Course scheduling
  • Faculty and staff professional development
  • Actively promote the following core values of academic leadership: ethics, shared governance, teamwork, collegiality, transparency, and empowerment with accountability.
  • Teach one course per semester in the Design Department [Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.]
  • Produce peer-reviewed research, scholarly and creative activities at the national/international level
  • Participate in service to the department, college, university, and community
