LA Membership Mixer: Formula Fruit Grand Prix Gallery Tour

On Saturday, January 31st, the IIDA SoCal LA City Center hosted a membership mixer at an art gallery in Redondo Beach. Members socialized and saw the Formula Fruit Grad Prix art collection at the residential home, turned art gallery.

The Formula Fruit Grand Prix 1950-2009 is a gallery of singular project containing 60 pieces of art. Inspired by the glamour and excitement of the golden era of motor racing, Formula Fruit Grand Prix races through an imaginary World Championship of vitamin packed, pulp-powered high-speed competition. This original collection of promotional artworks illustrates the evolution of racing car technology and design, the inevitable impacts of finance and commercialism on post-war Grand Prix racing and highlights sixty years of evolving tastes in graphical design, typesetting, fashion and photography.

The collection is not online, nor on social media, and really is meant to be an in person collection. Thank you to the artist and team for walking the LA City Center through the gallery, and explaining the meaning and process of the pieces. A cherry on top to the event, was the custom notebooks (half grid, half plain) with IIDA SoCal and the date of the event printed on them as gifts!
