Mash Up – Convergence of Students + Professionals

Student Winners:

On May 30th, IIDA hosted the 4th Annual Student Design Exhibition at Woodbury University. Thirty-four student projects were on display from thirteen schools. Five of these schools represented new IIDA Campus Centers. Students were selected by faculty, from each school, to exhibit their thesis projects. Distinguished professionals from the industry voted for a 3rd, 2nd and 1st prize winners. Attendees voted for the People’s Choice Award.

Judges

We had the special honor of having the following judges- Scott Johnson, IIDA President of SoCal Chapter and Design Principal at Wolcott Architecture; David Fridlund, IIDA President-Elect, Architect and Principal at Wirt Design Group; Stanley Felderman, Principal at FKA Studios, Carlos Posada, Senior Associate from Gensler and Moritz Hammer, Senior Associate at Kaplan, Gehring, McCarroll Architectural Lighting.

It was an evening meant to bring professionals and students together to connect and start building relationships, as well as to introduce our industry to our new upcoming fresh talent. As the co-host of the event and Woodbury Alum, it was a great experience to organize this event with our IIDA team and to see it be a great success. As well as being able to see what kind of work students are creating and what their goals are as they enter the design field. There was an amazing support from our industry for this event. We thank you all for acknowledging our next generation of designers.

I would definitely encourage everyone to attend these events, not only to acknowledge the hard work and creativity from students but it’s also a great insight in where our industry is moving to in a cultural, design and environmental aspect.
