OTIS’ 2012-2013 Donghia Master Class
SHASHI CAAN, the 2012-2013 Donghia Designer-in-Residence, is leading fourteen Architecture/Landscape/Interiors students in a one-week project. Ms. Caan is directing students through the collaborative, collective design methodology of her firm, the SHASHI CAAN COLLECTIVE. Born in India, educated in Scotland and N.Y., Caan promotes green materials and products in her work, including “Fractalis,” the environmentally friendly architectural finishing product developed for an Italian company. She is founding principal of The Collective US/UK and the President of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers.
Under the direction of SHASHI CAAN, Donghia students (Thomas Acosta, Lori Choi, Rodrigo Carmona, Catherine Hernandez, Hideyo Kameda, Steven Katz, Dami Kim, Theresa Lee, Annie Lin, Elbert Payra, Sandra Sadauskaite, Derek Yi, Irfan Zamani and Rodrigo Zayas) have proposed a project that would connect Los Angeles International Airport to the local community. The students, in one group, researched and analyzed; chose a site; and produced a design brief, planning methodology and design concept during two 8-hour classes, on March 15 and 16, 2013. The group will begin design development on Sunday, March 17, and present their projects to a jury on Wednesday, March 20.
