San Diego Rocked the House Of Blues with “Put The Record On”

Thursday November 12th was the IIDA San Diego Haute Couture Fashion Show – Put the Record On. The event showcased 18 talented design teams from the San Diego community including 3 student teams and attracted over 500 people.

Eight weeks ago our design teams were selected at random both a material sponsor and an album cover art piece to use as inspiration and were tasked to create an outfit using only that manufacturers materials and the fabric they snatched up from the Fabric Grab. The outcome was nothing short of incredible. All 18 teams dazzled the stage with the outstanding outfits and intoxicating stage presence. The House of Blues was on Fire!!

Some of the moments we will never forget include Dawn Dorn from Hurkes Harris Design Associates, crawling across the stage mimicking Madonna from their Album Cover “Like a Virgin”. The crowd went wild when Mary Michaelsen of ID Studios spread her wings of “water” and “swam” across the stage with more personality than the rockstar she portrayed. Who could forget the drama of seeing the vast wings on McCall Gulli from Catalina Design Group as she took to the stage. Anyone who got up close to Haley from Gensler’s dress could see that hours went into making the most beautiful fabric flowers you’ll ever see. And lets not forget the students! They all rocked the stage, but Kayla Galasso from SDSU owned the runway with her fiery personality. And the list of memorable moments goes on and on! Every team and every model truly lit up the stage!

We had five winners, though truthfully I think everyone was a winner!
